The buzz around the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
